July 2, 2020: We can still fight ACA 5

Thursday, July 2, 2020

Dear Friend,

My Senate colleagues passed ACA 5. This is outrageous. We cannot remove protections against discrimination in our state constitution.

Racism exists. Discrimination exists. That is no secret. I have experienced it myself.

We need to come together as a state and country to stand against racial injustices. But the answer to discrimination is not more discrimination. I support and will continue to support laws protecting minorities and women.

Here’s what ACA 5 wants to remove from our State Constitution:

The State shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.

What is so controversial about that? How did we get to the point where we are now enshrining discrimination in the law?

This bill is racing to beat the deadline to get on the ballot but it’s worth slowing down. Please join me in this fight.

Sincerely,
Ling Ling Chang
29th District
